Frequently Asked Questions
What should be considered before the operation?
Aspirin and similar drugs such as ibuprofen should not be taken at least two weeks before the operation because they increase the tendency to bleed. - In case of a viral cold, the surgery should be postponed for a few weeks. The goal of any cosmetic surgery is to improve the appearance, not to achieve complete and absolute beauty. You should not smoke for two weeks before and after the surgery. You should not eat anything 8 hours before the operation.
What problems can people experience if rhinoplasty is not performed properly and professionally?
Intranasal adhesions: In the nose, reactions resulting from surgical incisions and wounds may cause the tissues covering the nose to stick together and block the airway. Of course, if the surgeon observes certain points, such as minimal manipulations inside the nose during surgery, making minimal incisions inside the nose, and temporarily placing silicone sheets (for a few days to a few weeks) between the nasal septum and the tissues on the sides of the nose, this complication will be minimized.
Is there a way to flatten the tip of the nose other than surgery?
There is no other way to reduce the tip of the nose than with surgery.
Who is eligible for ear surgery?
People with large, protruding ears *People with asymmetrical ears *People whose ears are of different sizes *People who are born with a structural defect in their ears *People whose ears have suffered from an accident or incident *Other cases...
Is it possible to have laser nose surgery?
Although the laser is a surgical tool that has many applications in medicine, this method is used to make surgical incisions and remove lesions such as tumors. Regarding nasal surgeons, you should know that its use is in removing benign and malignant tumors of the mouth, pharynx, and larynx, and it is also used for some necessary treatments for nasal and sinus diseases such as polyps. Regarding the applications of laser, although this method is very widespread, it does not have a place in cosmetic surgery because the laser cannot change the nasal tissue and bone shape. The main goal of nasal surgery is to change the size and shape of the nasal bones and cartilage, which makes using a laser for this purpose completely unnecessary. In most cases that are referred to as laser rhinoplasty, the necessary skin incisions may be made in laser rhinoplasty.
Does a person's mental and emotional state affect nose surgery?
Some patients, despite satisfactory results, are dissatisfied with the results of their surgery due to psychological problems, obsessions, or unstable personalities that are overly influenced by others. The ideal candidate for rhinoplasty is someone who has realistic expectations of the surgery and is not under pressure from others to perform the surgery. More importantly, they do not expect major changes in their personal and social relationships after the surgery, and their strongest reason for having rhinoplasty is their own satisfaction.
Doctor, I'm afraid that if I need dental procedures after my nose job, such as tooth extraction or fillings, what should I do?
If you need immediate dental work after the surgery, there is no problem as long as the dentist does not put pressure on your nose while working. Inform your dentist about this. If you do not have urgent dental work, it is better to wait at least one month after the rhinoplasty to have procedures such as tooth extractions or fillings. Teeth scaling can be done earlier than this time.
How long after the operation can the results be judged?
It takes at least one to two years to make a final comment on the results of the surgery. Many patients spend hours in front of the mirror, staring at their noses, for several weeks after the surgery, while the swelling has not yet completely subsided.
Which parts of the nose are changed during rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape, size, and breathing ability of the nose. Rhinoplasty may also involve changes to the internal structure of the nose. This includes changing the septum, reducing nasal deviation, and reconstructing the nasal airway. The changes made during surgery may vary from person to person, depending on the type of nose and the surgical style.
How long does bruising and swelling last?
Bruising usually disappears by the time the dressing is removed, but in some patients it may persist for a few days. If the whites of the eyes become bloodshot, it may persist for a few weeks. Swelling of the nose occurs after surgery in all patients, but the amount varies from person to person depending on their skin type. This swelling is usually constant for up to a month and then slowly begins to subside, and the swelling of the upper part of the nose disappears completely by about 6 months and the swelling of the tip by a year.
What side effects can this procedure have?
Rhinoplasty usually does not have any significant complications. If the procedure is performed correctly and by a competent and experienced surgeon, the natural functions of the nose are preserved and there are no complications.
Who is eligible for rhinoplasty?
In general, all people who have a healthy heart, lungs, and other vital organs can undergo nose surgery.
Does laser have any complications?
Lasers, especially in the hands of inexperienced people, sometimes have serious complications! Early complications include burns and necrosis of healthy tissues, and in cases of laryngeal surgery, the risk of burning the anesthesia tube, damage to the airway and lungs, and burns from energy reflection by surgical instruments. Late complications can also include scarring and narrowing of the larynx.
What are the individual requirements for proper rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, like other surgeries, should be performed in the healthiest conditions for the patient. Therefore, it is recommended that the patient's surgery should be performed in an operating room under sterile conditions and complete facilities and equipment, along with light anesthesia.
How do people respond to plastic surgery?
Unfortunately, nowadays, plastic surgery of the nose and face has ceased to be a treatment and has become a fashion and a sideshow. A large group of volunteers do not really need to perform these procedures, and sometimes they even resort to this procedure due to psychological problems and failures to temporarily relieve pain from mental stress. Most dissatisfaction after plastic surgery is seen in this group. Our suggestion to you is that if you have difficulty breathing or appearance, come for the procedure.
When can I get pregnant after rhinoplasty?
You can become pregnant at least 6 months after rhinoplasty.
What are the recommendations and considerations the night before and the day of the operation? (Part Three)
Be sure to tell your nurse if you have artificial teeth (in the form of dentures, etc.) or loose teeth in your mouth, or if you have a metal device in your body that cannot be removed (artificial heart valves, artificial joints, and jewelry that cannot be removed). Women should be sure to tell your doctor before the procedure if they are on their period or suspect they are pregnant.
What are the recommendations and considerations the night before and the day of the operation? (Part Two)
Rhinoplasty usually does not have any significant complications. If the procedure is performed correctly and by a competent and experienced surgeon, the natural functions of the nose are preserved and there are no complications.
What are the recommendations and considerations the night before and the day of the operation? (Part One)
Make sure you get a good night's sleep in the 24 hours before your procedure (especially if you are traveling). If your procedure is in the morning, eat a light dinner the night before and don't drink anything else (not even water) after that. If your procedure is in the afternoon, have a light breakfast early in the morning, then fast completely. In any case, you should fast for at least 8 hours before your procedure. It is best to take a shower and wash your face with a mild soap before going to bed.
How is a person hospitalized before surgery?
After receiving the admission form from the surgeon, you should go to the surgery site on the day of the operation and at the time you were told and be admitted. Obviously, the operation will be performed in the order your surgeon has scheduled it, and you should not worry about this.
What is the "best" and "worst" type of nose for cosmetic surgery?
The best type of nose for cosmetic surgery is one where the skin is thin and the defects are concentrated on the back of the nose. The tip of the nose does not have much fat and the nasal cartilage is strong. Conversely, the worst types for surgery are noses with thick skin, a lot of fat at the tip, and weak cartilage, which is known as a "fleshy nose." The results of this type of nose surgery are often disappointing for the person.
Does the shape of the nose change over time after surgery?
Yes. Over time, the tip of the nose will generally tend to tilt slightly downward, and for this reason, the surgeon adjusts the tip of the nose "upward" during the operation so that it reaches the desired position over time. In noses that have had severe deviation of the septum and have been corrected with surgery, the deviation of the nasal septum may return to some degree after the operation and over time, and people should pay attention to this point.
When will the swelling and bruising from the surgery disappear? When will the final shape of the nose be determined?
Bruising from the procedure will usually disappear after at least 2 weeks. Swelling takes longer to resolve, generally taking several months to a year, after which the final shape of the nose is determined.
Is it useful to choose a "model" to work with based on albums or photos of friends, actors, etc.?
No. Each person's nose has characteristics that are completely different from other people's, and there are as many variations in the shape and position of the nose as there are people on the planet. These characteristics mean that the amount and manner of changes that can be made to the nose of two different people are not the same. On the other hand, the shape and form of the nose must be in harmony with the other parts of the face. A plastic surgeon beautifies each person's nose by considering its characteristics and harmony with the other parts of the face, and therefore choosing a model from a photo will not help.
Is the severity and method of changes made to the nose up to the patient's choice or the surgeon's discretion?
Although the surgeon will certainly pay attention to the patient's request for changes to the nose, she will only make changes to the nose that are, first, surgically possible and, second, do not conflict with the standards of beauty and health of the face and nose.
Does a person's allergy affect the surgery?
Allergies do not have much of an impact on the outcome of cosmetic surgery, but it is best not to have surgery when you are at your peak allergy or at least to control it with medication before surgery. A person's allergy will not improve with surgery and sometimes it may even temporarily worsen.
Are there any prohibitions for rhinoplasty?
In cases where surgery and anesthesia are dangerous for the patient for any reason, the operation is prohibited. Having certain congenital or acquired diseases and taking certain medications preclude the possibility of cosmetic surgery without complications, and in such cases, the person should be prohibited from cosmetic surgery. The operation is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Is it possible for people living in cities or abroad to have this procedure done in Tehran?
Yes, but they must remain in Tehran for at least 5 days after the operation and be visited by the surgeon.
Does the operation require general anesthesia? Is it possible to perform the operation with local anesthesia if desired?
Yes. Performing surgery under general anesthesia is much more comfortable for both the patient and the surgeon. Performing surgery under local anesthesia is only possible in rare cases and is generally not a desirable method.
Where is the surgery performed? Is it possible to perform the procedure in an office?
The surgery will be performed in a hospital or a limited surgery center that is well-equipped to perform such procedures. Although not scientifically unacceptable, performing rhinoplasty in an office setting is not accepted by the majority of plastic surgeons and is not recommended. In addition, it is associated with risks.
How long does the surgery take? How long is the hospital stay?
The surgery takes between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the case, and usually about 2 hours. The total length of stay until discharge is usually 8 to 10 hours. Most patients can go home 4 hours after the operation.
Are there any special nutritional recommendations before surgery?
Yes. To reduce bruising and bleeding, it is recommended to consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables at least one week in advance and to reduce the consumption of nuts and seeds, hazelnuts, pistachios, etc. (due to their adverse effect on blood clotting). People with anemia should consume more lentils and spinach 2 months in advance.
What considerations or conditions are there for the preoperative period?
Before the operation, the results of the tests and photographs must be seen by your surgeon. Aspirin and smoking should be stopped at least two weeks before the operation. Women should not be menstruating or pregnant. Before the operation, the person should not have a cold, herpes, boils or large pus-filled pimples on the nose.
What examinations or tests are required before surgery?
Before the operation, it is necessary to perform a series of blood tests that will be prescribed by your surgeon. Photography (photographed with a regular camera) must be done. If you have previously had photography done, show it to your surgeon. In cases of deviated nasal septum or breathing problems, an X-ray or CT scan may be requested at the discretion of your surgeon.
Is there a specific season recommended for this procedure?
Seasons do not have much effect on the outcome of the surgery. People who get colds a lot in the winter should have surgery in another season. Also, people who have seasonal allergies should have surgery in a season when they are not allergic. On the other hand, people who have low tolerance for heat in the summer will be more bothered after the surgery due to a blocked nose (due to tampons) and it is better to choose another season.
If the nose is operated on by someone who lacks sufficient training and skill in this field and develops complications or deformities, can it be easily beautified or restored to its original state by performing the operation again?
No. Correcting or beautifying the nose in such cases (because the first surgeon did not follow scientific principles and may have destroyed the nasal reserves) is very difficult and in some cases impossible. This makes it even more important to be careful in choosing a surgeon for someone who wants to have cosmetic rhinoplasty.
Who should a person contact if the results of the procedure are not satisfactory or if complications occur?
If his doctor is a qualified person in the field of rhinoplasty, the first step should be to refer to him so that, if possible, his problems can be resolved. If his doctor cannot satisfy him, he should be referred to more experienced surgeons in this field at his discretion. It should be noted that unfortunately, many surgeons refuse to accept patients who have been operated on by inexperienced people and have suffered complications, and in such cases, patients become indecisive and confused, which doubles their psychological damage. On the other hand, complete correction of such complications is often not possible, and the words of surgeons who promise 100% correction of this type of nose should be viewed with suspicion.
Is it possible for the nose to need reoperation? Is the reoperation free?
If the nose is operated on by an experienced person, it will not usually require a reoperation or additional surgery. However, in the presence of certain conditions (such as a severe deviation of the nasal septum) or the occurrence of some rare complications, the nose may require a reoperation or "retouch" in the future. In these cases, the costs of hospitalization are the responsibility of the patient. Depending on the conditions and reason for the operation, the cost of surgery for the patient may be lower or free.
Is it possible to pay all or part of the costs of this procedure with an insurance policy or supplementary insurance?
No. Rhinoplasty in Iran (and almost the entire world) is not covered by any type of insurance, and all costs of this procedure (including hospitalization, anesthesia, surgery) must be paid by the patient. If medical procedures such as polyp removal or correction of a deviated septum have been performed on the patient, a portion of the costs of the procedure related to these cases may be covered by insurance.
Is it possible for a deviated nasal septum to "recur" after surgery?
Since the cartilage of the nasal septum is a living tissue that is repairing and rebuilding itself, after correction of the deviated nasal septum and as the cartilage grows back, it may become more inclined to one side to some extent, resulting in the nasal septum not being completely straight. This "recurrence" of the deviated nasal septum is not predictable and is something that a person needs to be aware of before undergoing surgery. The "recurrence" of the deviation is usually not severe enough to require reoperation, but it may rarely require re-surgery.
In cases where the nose itself or its blade has a severe deviation to one side, can it be completely corrected with surgery?
Rhinoplasty, like other surgeries, should be performed in the healthiest conditions for the patient. Therefore, it is recommended that the patient's surgery should be performed in an operating room under sterile conditions and complete facilities and equipment, along with light anesthesia.
Does correcting a deviated septum or removing a polyp make the nose more beautiful?
No. These procedures only improve nasal breathing and usually do not result in a noticeable change in the shape of the nose. If a person also wants to make their nose more beautiful, cosmetic surgery should be performed in addition to the above.
Why are some people not satisfied with the results of this procedure?
In most cases, the reason for this is that the patient did not perform the procedure with full knowledge and information, did not consult their doctor enough about the results of the procedure, or did not listen to the words of the consulting doctors. Most of these people do not have the right perspective on cosmetic surgery and have unrealistic ideas that any type of nose can be made beautiful with surgery. In some cases, these people have been operated on by doctors who lacked expertise and experience in this field, and of course, they did not get a good result.
Is it forbidden for middle-aged or elderly people to perform this procedure?
As we age, the adaptation of the nasal skin to the new conditions under the skin decreases, and the success rate of the surgery decreases accordingly. For example, at the age of 50 and above, the flexibility of the nose decreases significantly due to the decrease in skin elasticity. In addition, with increasing age, due to the possibility of cardiovascular diseases and other issues such as increased risk of anesthesia, the surgeon may not be able to use the appropriate method.
What is the appropriate age for this procedure?
Rhinoplasty can be performed on men and women after puberty (after 16 years in women and after 18 years in men), but after that, there is no specific age limit. The best age for rhinoplasty is probably 18-20 years, that is, when the skin of the nose has not yet adapted to the new conditions.
Can any type of nose be made beautiful and desirable with surgery?
No. The result of cosmetic surgery is better in some noses and in some noses, the result of the surgery is not desirable. The patient's awareness of this issue and his/her full consultation with his/her surgeon in this regard are very important. For example, noses with thick skin, a lot of fat and weak cartilage (known in common parlance as "fleshy" noses) are very rarely changed by surgery. These types of noses experience severe swelling after the surgery and sometimes it takes up to 3 years for this swelling to resolve. Most people with this type of nose will not be satisfied with the result of the surgery.
Is rhinoplasty a dangerous procedure?
If the patient is healthy in every way and has no problems with the operation, and the operation is performed in a well-equipped center by an experienced surgeon, this operation is considered a low-risk procedure and people should not worry about it.
Who should I see for rhinoplasty?
Medical and surgical knowledge, along with familiarity with the physiology and anatomy of the nose, along with aesthetic thinking, and the science, skill, and expertise of aesthetic surgery, all form the pillars of the building on which the roof of confidence of the rhinoplasty candidate must be built. - Knowing the physiology of the nose and its diseases alone is not a criterion for knowing rhinoplasty, and on the other hand, simply knowing the surgical method and the anatomy of the bones and cartilage of the nose does not cure a disease. Science, expertise, and documented training must be combined throughout the plastic surgery course so that no problems arise from the design to the implementation and fruition of a pure idea. On the other hand, the surgeon must have sufficient ability to control the immediate and long-term complications of the surgery and have the ability to identify the cartilage and bone reserves necessary for possible revision or reoperation in rhinoplasty.
Does rhinoplasty have an adverse effect on the function (physiology) of the nose?
If this procedure is performed properly and by someone who has sufficient knowledge, training, and experience in this procedure, it will not have a negative effect on the function of the nose, and in cases where the nasal septum is deviated, it will also improve breathing. However, performing the same procedure by unqualified people will cause irreparable damage to the function of the nose.
The effect of smoking on nose surgery
Due to the presence of nicotine in cigarettes, the patient's recovery process and recovery period will be slightly longer. In general, smoking, including hookah and cigarettes, is prohibited after nose surgery. Because the nicotine in it causes blood clotting problems. Tobacco should not be used for at least two weeks after rhinoplasty.
Is it wrong to have rhinoplasty? Why do some people have a negative opinion of those who have it?
In cases where a person's nose is clearly ugly, misshapen, or severely deviated, and its defects can be corrected with surgery, rhinoplasty, provided that it is performed consciously, with full knowledge and information, and in compliance with the conditions of this procedure, will be useful in creating a more beautiful nose with a "natural" appearance. However, in cases where the request for this procedure is solely for illogical reasons such as "fashion," "eyes and noses," or "suggestions and opinions of those around you," and in cases where the person's nose does not have any significant defects, performing this procedure is wrong and will result in nothing but regret.
Why is there a high demand for rhinoplasty?
The nose is the only part of the body that is most visible and is exposed to everyone under all circumstances. It is the most prominent part of the face and also forms the center of the face. Therefore, it is not surprising that a person pays a lot of attention to the shape of their nose and, in cases where it is unsightly, seeks to correct and beautify it.
What does "rhinoplasty" mean? Is it different from cosmetic nose surgery?
Rhinoplasty is basically a combination of two parts: "rhino" meaning nose and "plasty" meaning shaping. The history of this type of non-aesthetic surgery dates back several centuries, but the modern practice of cosmetic nose surgery is only a few decades old. Today, the term rhinoplasty is used synonymously with cosmetic nose surgery.
Is rhinoplasty a common procedure in the world?
Yes. It is the most common cosmetic procedure in Iran and is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries in the world.

Is there a way to tighten the tip of the nose other than surgery? I had a thread lift on my nose a few months ago, but it didn't make a difference. They said I have to go in for repairs several times so it doesn't droop and is permanent, but it doesn't seem right. Please help me.
There is no other way to reduce the tip of the nose than with surgery.
